Garbage dumping begins on No. 8

From 1927 (Shōwa 2), garbage began to be buried on No. 8, the land that is now Shiomi.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Environment writes that "from Shōwa 2 (1927), garbage began to be buried on No. 8, which became today's Shiomi, Kōtō-ku". At first the "open burning" (野焼き) method was used: garbage left in the open was set on fire and then buried. According to the Port and Harbor Bureau's survey, combustible garbage was burned mainly on the east side of the landfill.

The Port and Harbor Bureau also states that "full-scale garbage reclamation of the sea in postwar Tokyo Port is thought to have begun at No. 8".
