Ari-no-Machi moves to No. 8 Reclaimed Land
Ari-no-Machi, which had stood in a corner of Sumida Park, moved to a 16,000 m² site on No. 8 Reclaimed Land.
According to Wikipedia, on 4 June 1960 (Shōwa 35) Ari-no-Machi, which had stood in a corner of Sumida Park, moved to Fukagawa No. 8 Reclaimed Land. The site was 16,000 m², ten times the old Ari-no-Machi. The diocesan records also give Shōwa 35 (1960) as the year in which the chapel was built and the church moved together with the people of Ari-no-Machi.
Kōtō-ku's chronology, on the other hand, lists "Ari-no-Kai moved to No. 8 (Shiomi) and founded New Ari-no-Machi" under 1958. This 1958 may refer to the decision to move, but that is not certain. The day, 4 June, has also not yet been confirmed from a contemporary source.
In the new Ari-no-Machi, trucks and conveyor belts replaced hand carts and the heavy work of baling, and welfare facilities such as a public bath, a children's park and a nursery room were built.
