The Shiomi district town-planning policy is revised

In June 2026 (Reiwa 8), Kōtō-ku revised the Shiomi district town-planning policy it had adopted in 2008.

Kōtō-ku explains: "More than fifteen years have passed since the town-planning policy was adopted (October 2008), and owing to stalled private development and other factors, land uses different from those envisaged at the time have appeared. We therefore revised the policy in June 2026, with the aim of guiding future development appropriately." For the revision, the ward held a residents' survey from 20 August to 3 September 2025 (425 replies), invited comments on the draft from 18 March to 19 April 2026, and held a briefing on 24 March. The revision was announced in the Kōtō ward newsletter of 11 July 2026.

The revised policy sets the goal of "a lively town, surrounded by water and greenery, where everyone can live safely and comfortably". The 2008 policy had expected a resident population of about 11,000; on 1 November 2026, Shiomi's population was 6,035.
